Srinagar, Apr 04 (KNO): Signaling the arrival of spring in Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated the ‘Almond Bloom Festival,’ at the famous Badamwari garden in the old city here. The festival organized by the Departments of Tourism and Floriculture saw participation from a host of dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhury, NC’s chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Director Tourism, and senior officials. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the garden echoed with Kashmiri music, drawing a large crowd. Celebrated artists including Noor Mohammad, Irfan Bilal, and Zaid Sikandar delivered live performances that captivated the audience and added cultural flavour to the blooming landscape. Similarly, stalls offering local delicacies and crafts were set up around the park, giving visitors a taste of Kashmir’s rich heritage. Families were seen arriving in large numbers by evening, carrying home-cooked meals and enjoying picnics under the white and pink canopy of almond blossoms. Additionally, security arrangements were robust, with deployment of personnel from almost every police post in Downtown Srinagar. ‘Entry and exit points were closely monitored, ensuring a peaceful environment for the gathering.’ Meanwhile, the festival served as a celebration of Kashmir’s changing season, with locals embracing the opportunity to unwind in one of the Valley’s most iconic spaces. Tamana, a resident of Hawal, said we wait for this bloom every year. It reminds us that winter is over and better days are coming. This festival brings life back to the old city. Aqib Hussain a college student said, “Badamwari looks magical in spring, and today it truly felt like a celebration of Kashmir.”—(KNO)
